Skyy

For Trombones and Rhythm
Duration: 7 min

I’d like to start by saying that I do not drink… At least not anymore. At the time this work was written, I was neck deep in my undergraduate studies. Some of the students would host what were colloquially call “School of Music Workshops,” which were often the biggest parties of the semester for all around. I was very often the designated driver from someone. With that, I got a very sobering view of all of my peers riding the liquor induced wave into oblivion. This piece seeks to recreate those dizzying experiences.

This work was written for trombonist Anthony Williams and was premiered by the University of Memphis Jazz Bones.
